Asian-inspired Braised Pork
- Servings: 4
- Difficulty: medium
- Time: 2 hours
- Tools: Le Creuset pot
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds (680g) boneless pork shoulder, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat the Le Creuset pot with the oil covering the bottom over medium heat and add the pork chunks. Sear them for 2-3 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove the pork from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the sliced onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the pork to the pot and add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and chicken broth. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 1.5 hours until the pork becomes tender and easily pulled apart.
- Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork back to the pot and stir well to coat it in the flavorful sauce.
- Simmer the pork in the sauce for another 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to come together.
- Serve the Asian-inspired braised pork over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Personal Recipe Notes
When searing the meat, don’t crowd the pieces. Overcrowding the pan could result in meat that is essentially steamed. Cook in batches if needed.
