Lasagna with Italin sausage

Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles (250g)
  • 1 lb (450g) Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15oz/425g) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5oz/411g) diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 egg
  • 1 container (15oz/425g) ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, cook Italian sausage over medium-high heat until browned. Add onion and cook until softened. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat egg and stir in ricotta cheese.
  6. Spread about 1/3 of the sausage mixture at the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles, 1/2 of the ricotta mixture, another 1/3 of the sausage mixture, and 1/2 of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients, ending with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 to 30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
